Case Studies

I need to better scale my business

Glin is the Founder and CEO of a Coaching and Leadership Development business for female  leaders.

Goal

She has been running her business for almost 2 years and her goal for the debrief was to learn more about her strengths and what she could leverage to better scale her business.

Challenges

During our debrief Glin shared that transitioning from a senior executive role in corporate to running her own business had been a challenging journey, yet on seeing her realised strengths, which strongly resonated, she could see where she had used these to reframe the challenges she faced as a springboard for doing what her business is all about, connecting and elevating women in leadership.

One of the challenges Glin was experiencing was making the best use of her time and often found herself doing things within her business that didn't energise her and were not a good use of her skills and talents. She acknowledged that she needed to set up systems and resourcing for better planning and this had been a concern and a source of stress for her.

Opportunities

During the debrief we examined some of these activities that were not energising for her and discovered that they sat within her weaknesses, so discussed strategies for managing these, yet still fulfilling her business requirements.

Realisations

This is when a lightbulb moment occurred for Glin, she had Time Optimiser in her Unrealised Strengths that she was not leveraging and this was key for her as she her time was limited, so a focus on this meant that rather than spending time on these activities, they could be outsourced to someone who was energised by and performed them to the standard she needed, at the same time creating more time for Glin to focus on the front facing client delivery aspects of her business.

She also realised that she hadn't been setting clear boundaries for herself, working through until 10.00 at night and at weekends, doing low value tasks she didn't enjoy. She also realized that time to play was important to her and currently there was no time built into her schedule for this.

Value

Asked if this is something that would help otimise her time, this is what she said "Oh my gosh, yes, massively, as I want more downtime time for play, but I see now that I haven't given myself a limit on how many hours a week I am going to work, which would enable me to use the constraint to optimise my time."

Commitments

Glin made the following commitments in the session her level of likelihood of achieving these was a self rated 9/10 :

  • Research the cost of a virtual EA to to reduce the stress and release Glin to spend more time on working in her strengths.

  • Use Otter for recording her pro coaching transcripts and reduce the amount of time typing up notes to give her more personalised bonus time

  • Setting time boundaries for number of hours worked per week and creating more downtime for play and relaxation.

  • Use her strength of Mission to articulate her business purpose rather than using Persuasion, which was a de-energising Learned Behaviour.

Actions

Post the session Glin sent me a message to say " I found the Strengths Profiler a really good clarifying tool and I'll certainly be leveraging it more to maximise my impact".

Results

  • Glin has employed a VA and is already realising the benefits of this, in terms of her workload and time optimisation.

  • Otter is being used to record coaching sessions, to free up more time to spend on recreation activities.

  • Glin has set better time boundaries for herself and is no longer working the weekends. She is also now running boundaries workshops to help other people put into practice what she has benefitted from herself.

  • Glin’s sense of Mission is well developed and she is now using this as her anchor for all her communications and pitch deck, for potential clients to communicate her business and its purpose in the most authentic way.
